In a pioneering move for senior education, Changzhou has launched Jiangsu’s first city-level open university for seniors. The Changzhou branch of The Seniors University of China, based at Changzhou Open University, was officially inaugurated on October 24, offering diverse and accessible learning opportunities for the city’s aging population.
The new institution provides a comprehensive curriculum across 28 courses, including vocal performance, practical skills, fine arts, instrumental music, and fitness dance. With the capacity to serve nearly 10,000 learners annually, including those at satellite campuses, the university is well-equipped to meet the needs of senior citizens. A smart campus management platform will streamline the entire experience by enabling online registration, course selection, payments, and support services—designed to make lifelong learning convenient and engaging for seniors.
Changzhou Open University, already a key provider of lifelong learning in areas such as adult education, family education, community outreach, and workforce training, is now expanding its role to meet the growing demand for senior education. Guided by The Seniors University of China's ethos of “Virtue, Learning, Health, and Happiness,” the university aims to deliver high-quality, accessible education tailored specifically for older adults. Its mission is to create an inclusive learning environment through an innovative, open, and resource-sharing approach.
By prioritizing equitable access to quality educational resources, Changzhou Open University seeks to establish a senior education network that reaches both urban and rural areas, building a robust public service platform to support the well-being and personal growth of seniors throughout the city.
