Changzhou Benniu International Airport reached a new milestone in July, handling more than 453,000 passengers—the highest monthly figure in its history. This marks a 19.58% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
The airport capitalized on the summer travel rush by targeting key passenger groups, including students, tourists, family visitors, and business travelers. To accommodate this surge, the airport expanded its flight network and increased the frequency of services, offering travelers a wider range of convenient options. Daily passenger numbers exceeded 14,000, with an average flight occupancy rate of over 80%. Routes to Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dalian were particularly popular, while niche tourism routes to destinations such as Turpan, Xining, and Jieyang also saw strong demand. The Chengdu route led the pack with more than 40,000 passengers in July.
Internationally, Changzhou’s routes to Bangkok, Nha Trang, Vientiane, and Macao saw a combined passenger throughput of 22,000 in July, reflecting a 6.6% year-on-year growth. The Vientiane route was especially noteworthy, with an average occupancy rate close to 90%.
In addition to passenger traffic, Changzhou Airport handled 1,492.7 tons of cargo and mail in July. The transport of perishable goods was a significant contributor, with 30 tons of peaches shipped to destinations including Shenyang, Guiyang, Shenzhen, and Singapore. The airport also launched its international cargo service on the Vientiane route, successfully completing its first shipment of crayfish. Outbound cargo, carried in the belly holds of passenger aircraft, totaled 847.2 tons—a 79.78% year-on-year increase—primarily consisting of clothing, express parcels, and fresh goods destined for cities such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Zhuhai, and Xiamen. Inbound cargo, mainly perishable goods and general goods, amounted to 645.5 tons, originating from cities like Chengdu, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Kunming.
