During the week-long National Day holiday, Changzhou’s cultural and tourism market experienced a significant boost, with a surge in visitors and consumer spending. According to data from the travel platform Ctrip, as of October 6, bookings for trips to Changzhou increased by 18% year-on-year, while overall consumer spending rose by 10%. This placed Changzhou among the top 10 fastest-growing destinations in terms of travel bookings and spending. Hotel reservations climbed 16%, with a 3% increase in spending, while ticket sales jumped 78%, and ticket revenue rose by 79%.

Cultural venues were a major draw. The Changzhou Museum’s dragon culture exhibition, featuring 205 rare artifacts, attracted 63,000 visitors—a 28% increase from the previous year—while sales of cultural and creative products skyrocketed by 80%. The city’s public library extended its hours until 9 p.m. and held events such as Patriotic Poetry Recitals of Great Leaders both online and offline, drawing around 69,000 attendees, a 14.2% increase compared to last year. Meanwhile, the Changzhou Cultural Center organized 17 community events, including the popular Songs for Our Homeland choral gathering, which engaged 65,000 participants.

Themed attractions offered a wide range of captivating experiences. Universal Dinosaur Town hosted a 12-hour celebration, while Dino Water Town introduced the Grand Market and a new parade performance, Mohist Knight: A Modern Parade of Tradition, blending traditional culture with a contemporary twist. During the seven-day holiday, Universal Dinosaur Town welcomed 600,000 visitors, marking a 34% increase from last year. The Oriental Salt Lake Resort’s Celebration of Chinese Traditions achieved record-breaking visitor numbers on the first day of the holiday, the highest in the past three years. At Tianmu Lake Tourist Area, a spectacular drone light show celebrating China dazzled large crowds, while Yancheng Chunqiu Amusement Land came alive in the evening with the vibrant festivities of the Festival of Fantastical Tales.

Changzhou’s youthful spirit shone brightly during the Joyful Changzhou Celebrations. The 9th Taihu Bay Music Festival, featuring 56 artists and bands, gained national attention with coverage from CCTV. At the Cultural Plaza, the 2024 Super Wild Concert series ran for five nights, drawing in a total of 714,000 music fans.

Eco-tourism also flourished. The shores of West Taihu Lake became a popular spot for campers, while the Xiaxi Flower and Plant Market’s Garden Festival offered a refreshing take on modern horticulture. Tianmu Lake’s appeal brought twice the number of visitors to nearby villages like Wangjia and Shitang, while Jiangxia Village saw an 83.64% rise in tourists and nearly quadrupled its revenue compared to the same period last year.
