To strengthen the exchange of expertise between Jiangsu province and the global technology sector, and to provide an industry-university-research institute collaboration platform for overseas professionals working in the province, the 2024 Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Talent has officially been launched. Organized by the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, the competition is open for online registration until August 31, with overseas tech professionals especially encouraged to participate.
This year’s competition aims to attract top talent, drive industrial development, and enhance training through competition. It focuses on the strategic needs and key industries of cities across Jiangsu, seeking to identify ways the Overseas Talent initiative can boost local economic growth, support international professionals in accessing opportunities in Jiangsu, and contribute to the development of the province’s modern industrial system.
For the first time, the event has expanded its reach to include all units under the Provincial Association for Science and Technology, primary-level organizations, and both domestic and international science and technology associations. This expansion broadens the channels for project submissions, relaxes professional requirements, and covers a wider range of fields, aiming to attract more participants. Eligible candidates include high-level professionals from both within China and abroad, including overseas Chinese and outstanding returnees. Participants should have overseas study or work experience, hold independent intellectual property rights related to products or technologies (without disputes), or possess key technologies with innovation and commercialization potential. Submitted projects must comply with Chinese laws, regulations, and relevant industrial policies, promote innovation and technological upgrades in enterprises, and have clear ownership of rights.
The competition is divided into two categories: Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Entrepreneurship projects should come from high-growth technology enterprises with leading products that have independent intellectual property rights, meet international or domestic leading standards, fill gaps in the domestic market, or lead the development of relevant industries, and have market potential and expected economic benefits. Innovation projects should have core technologies for innovation and technological upgrades within enterprises, with clear ownership of rights. Participants should hold mid-to-senior positions in well-known domestic or international companies, have outstanding work performance, and be recognized in their field.
Additionally, this year’s competition offers enhanced awards and support policies. First-prize winners who meet the criteria for Jiangsu’s “Entrepreneurship & Innovation Program” will be recommended without quota restrictions. All finalists, particularly the winners, will be given priority for credit support from financial institutions and for collaboration with local governments, industrial parks, and enterprises across the province. Any winning projects interested in setting up operations in Jiangsu will be prioritized for discussions with local government departments about relevant rewards and support policies.
Registration for the competition closes on August 31, 2024. Participants from within and outside the province can register through the "Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology Program Management Information Platform." Preliminary selections will be completed by September 30, 2024, and the finals will be held in mid-to-late October 2024 in Wuxi.
This is the second Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition organized by the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology for high-level talent both within China and abroad. Last year’s inaugural event successfully attracted 211 high-quality projects from around the world, with 15 standout projects winning awards in the finals and several top overseas projects securing contracts during the award ceremony.
